Once you have mastered the ability to take deep, smooth puffs of smoke, you may try to learn a few tricks to impress your friends.
Smoke Rings
The classic trick: smoke rings! The key to a tight ring is in tongue and throat control. After taking a deep puff, release some smoke into your mouth. Purse your lips into an “O” shape and relax your throat. Gently make a small puff with your lungs. A small ring should billow out and expand as it leaves your lips.
The Heart
Once you can consistently blow a nice smoke ring, you can try a variation called the “heart.” Take a strong puff of tobacco, drawing a lot of smoke. After you remove the hose from your mouth, stick a toothpick between your two front teeth, so that it can stand on its own. Use standard smoke ring procedure and the toothpick should cause an indentation in the top of the ring, giving it the appearance of a rounded heart.
The Waterfall
A very difficult and advanced trick is called “the waterfall.” A waterfall, also known as a “French inhale” is a practice in circular breathing. In this trick you allow smoke to slowly billow out of your mouth, directing it upwards. As it drifts upwards, you inhale it again through your nose. This creates a circular path for the smoke. It creates an illusion of a waterfall drifting upwards from your mouth, covering your upper lip and settling at your nose, hence the name “waterfall.”
